Setting your feet into the country, you will see why Bhutan is named the Last Shangri La. Adventure hikes in this tour itinerary such as hike to Chimi Lhakhang and Tiger’s Nest are added for the exciting experience of hiking to the sacred sites. It takes 2 hours to hike to the main temple of Tiger’s Nest monastery, but the scenery when one reaches the summit is breathtaking and totally worth your effort. It’s a must visit holy site for every visitor to the country.
Besides the National Memorial Chorten, you will also see Gangtey monastery which is the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region. Take your time to get to know the cultural life by discovering the Paro town and Thimphu town and be awed by the friendliness of Bhutanese. You also take Gangtey Nature Trail to discover the scenic Phobjikha valley, all in this tour.
Upon landing in Paro (2,300m), you will have a great overview of the snowcapped mountains of the Himalayas. Our representative will then take you to Thimphu – the capital of Bhutan at 2,400m.
Along the way, we visit Tachogang Lhakhang and the Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre.
In Thimphu, we visit the National Memorial Chorten, the General Post Office, and Buddha Point – a massive statue at 51.5m.
Explore the lively Thimphu town. Overnight in Thimphu.
Hike to Tango Monastery – 400m elevation through blue pine forests. Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, then Zorig Chusum (Arts & Crafts School).
Tashichho Dzong, first built in 1216 A.D. Flag changing ceremony at 5pm. Overnight in Thimphu.
Dochula Pass (3,050m) – 108 chortens with Himalayan panorama. Visit Druk Wangyal Lhakhang.
Gangtey Goemba – the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region. Phobjikha valley – home of Black Necked Cranes. Overnight in Gangtey.
Gangtey Nature Trail through flower meadows and blue pine forest.
Punakha Dzong (1637). Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge (160m). Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten through rice fields. Overnight in Punakha.
Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility) through Lobesa farmlands.
Paro Rinpung Dzong (1644). National Museum (Ta Dzong). Explore Paro streets. Overnight in Paro.
Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) – cliff at 3,000m, 4.5km one way.
Kyichu Lhakhang – 7th century temple.
Evening: farmhouse dinner, archery, hot stone bath. Last night in Paro.
