Ura Yakchoe Tshechu Festival is hosted from 18–22 April 2027 at Ura Guru Lhakhang in Bumthang. Five days of public performances featuring the Throchu Dance, Mangchen Dance and Tenkor – a time of spiritual practice, religious worship, and cultural celebration.

This 13-day journey explores Thimphu, Gangtey, Bumthang (with the festival), Trongsa, and Paro – immersing you in the most beautiful landscapes and sacred sites of Bhutan.

Arrive in Paro and travel to Thimphu

Welcome! Visit Tachogang Lhakhang, National Memorial Chorten, Buddha Point (51.5m). Explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 02
Thimphu sightseeing
Thimphu · Full day · 2,400m

Hike to Tango Monastery (2,800m). Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, Zorig Chusum (Arts School), Tashichho Dzong (flag ceremony 5pm). Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 03
Thimphu to Gangtey
Thimphu → Gangtey · 160km · ~6hrs · 2,900m

Dochula Pass (3,050m). Gangtey Goemba (1613). Gangtey Nature Trail. Black-necked Crane Centre. Overnight in Gangtey.

Day 04
Gangtey to Bumthang
Gangtey → Bumthang · 158km · ~6hrs · 2,800m

Drive to Bumthang through Trongsa. Visit Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong. Yathra Weaving Center. Overnight in Bumthang.

Bumthang sightseeing

Visit Jambay Lhakhang (7th century), Kurjey Lhakhang, Tamshing Monastery (1501), Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery. Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 06
Discover Tang Valley
Bumthang (Tang Valley) · Full day · 2,800m

Visit Mebar Tsho (Flaming Lake). Tang Ogyen Choling Palace Museum. Explore the most remote of Bumthang's valleys. Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 07
★ Ura Yakchoe Festival

★ FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHT — Ura Yakchoe Tshechu at Ura Guru Lhakhang, 18–22 April 2027. Five days of public performances.

Key performances: Throchu Dance, Mangchen Dance, Tenkor, sacred masked dances and folk performances.

Ura is the highest of Bumthang's four valleys. Villagers in traditional dress gather for spiritual practice, worship and celebration. Overnight in Bumthang.

Bumthang to Trongsa

Visit Trongsa Dzong, the largest and most spectacular dzong (1644). Kinga Rabten winter palace. Karma Drubdey Nunnery. Overnight in Trongsa.

Day 09
Trongsa to Punakha
Trongsa → Punakha · 150km · ~5hrs · 1,300m

Punakha Dzong (Palace of Great Happiness). Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge (160m). Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 10
Punakha to Paro
Punakha → Paro · 125km · ~4hrs · 2,300m

Walk to Chimi Lhakhang. Visit Paro Rinpung Dzong and National Museum (Ta Dzong). Overnight in Paro.

Day 11
Paro – Chumphu Ney Trek
Paro · Trek · 4-5hrs

Hike to sacred Chumphu Ney, one of Bhutan's top pilgrimage walks through pristine nature. Overnight in Paro.

Day 12
Tiger's Nest & Farewell
Paro · Full day · 3,120m peak

Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest). Visit Kyichu Lhakhang (7th century). Special dinner with local family. Hot stone bath. Last night in Paro.

Depart Paro
